“Non Semper Erit Aestas…It Will Not Always Be Summer”
The purpose of this program is to teach the unique skills needed for winter camping in order to help Scout units extend their camping season throughout all 12 months of the year. It is expected that the participants of this course will go back to their units and share the knowledge and skills learned in this course.
Cold Weather Camping Course – Train the Trainer (Open to Youth 14+ and Adults)
This cold weather camping training course will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to conduct cold weather camping training within your units. Cold weather camping mistakes can be dangerous. This program covers the preparation and techniques needed to ensure a successful, safe, and fun cold weather camping experience. Topics covered include physical readiness, proper clothing and equipment, nutritional needs and food prep, snow shelters, travelling over snow, cold weather first aid, and more.
Course Dates:
- November 11,2023 (Classroom, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM) – at Camp Lowden
- December 9, 2023 (Classroom, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM) – Location TBD
- January 13, 2024 (Outdoor Classroom, 8:30 AM. 3:30 PM) – Location TBD
- February 2-4, 2024 (Practical, Camp Lowden, Oregon, IL) – at Camp Lowden
*** Attendance at all 3 class dates & the practical weekend are required to complete the course.***
Course Fee: Early Registration $135 for Adult and Youth 14+ (To be paid in full by 9/30/23)
Cost on 10/1/23 will be $155 for Adult and Youth 14+ (To be paid in full by 10/30/23)
(Some additional costs for food and/or equipment may be incurred.)
